Welcome to my Ultrarunner Journal

While my story may not be one for the record books, it is mine to share. Welcome to my ultrarunner journal – a place to share the story behind all the race bibs collecting dust on my bookshelf as I reflect on all the miles it took to get here and where they’ll take me next.

Hi, I’m Ryan, and I might be a little crazy, but I love getting lost on the trails.

My Ultrarunner Journal

For some unknown reason, I’ve managed to collect all but a few of the bibs from every race I have run. Since 2013, I’ve been paying good money to run hard, sweat profusely, and eat delicious junk food from tables in the middle of the woods, knowing that multiple strangers have probably already touched it. And I love every bit of this journey.

Every race bib has a story. Not everyone believes me when I say that.

While I might not be able to tell you every detail of every race over the past decade, I can tell you something special that stuck with me from those miles on the pavement, dirt track, and rocks.

My running journey began on the chip-sealed roads of east Tennessee and has taken me to spectacular heights in remote country I never knew I needed to see. Those experiences will stick with a person – and likely have driven me crazy over time. But I’m ok with that.

Everyone has their crazy; ultrarunning just happens to be mine.

Stay tuned for more as I jump back in time and retrace the miles and share the stories from each race bib that I’ve collected along the way.

  1. […] The Don’t Fence Me In Trail Run takes place on these trails with distances of 5k, 12k, or 30k. For my first trail race, 5k was intimidating, but this race would be a teaser that would add sparks to the fire for my future in ultrarunning. […]
